Appalachian Basket Weaving - February 26, 2010 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Since the early 1900's, rural residents of the mountains of Appalachia have woven intricate baskets for carrying items such as eggs, cotton, and herbs. These beautiful and durable baskets are now prized by collectors and museums.

Master basket weaver Kathy Chang will lead this hands-on workshop which will guide the student through the process of making the unique basket pictured at right. This striking basket has a solid wood base, wooden lid with a decorative ceramic knob, and is adorned on the side.

Suggestions for participating in this hands-on workship: dress casually, bring a sack lunch, a bucket, a few old towels and prepare for a fun, challenging workshop!
