Buffalo Bayou

Join us for a half-day trip down Buffalo Bayou and learn about the history of Houston's most unique natural asset. We are planning monthly trips to explore this special urban ecosystem. The focus of these trips is education and conservation. We will discuss important conservation issues currently facing our Bayou on each trip. Our trip leader will be expert guide Don Greene, award-winning conservationist and educator.

The Leader

Don Greene has been involved in outdoor education and preservation for 30 years and has been a professional guide and outfitter since 1975. He is an American Red Cross canoeing instructor, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Swiftwater Rescue Technician. Don has won numerous awards for outdoor education and conservation and shares our passionate interest in the preservation of Buffalo Bayou. This trip will be an ideal opportunity to absorb Don's knowledge and enthusiasm about our most precious water resource.

Dates: Trips are on the third Saturday of each month starting at 1 p.m. and concluding between 5 and 7 p.m.

There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the Arboretum the Thursday before each trip at 7 p.m.

  • Trips in Oct., Nov. and Dec. of 2009 have been cancelled.

Ages: 16 and up

Route: Put in at the I-610 bridge and Woodway Drive; take out at Memorial and Shepherd Drive.

Cost:
$85 for Arboretum members
$105 for non-members.
