
Children's Classes
For preschool ages
- Tyke Hikes - This one hour program for 18 months to 3 yrs includes a nature story reading followed by a stroller-friendly hike on the Arboretum trails. Each week focuses on a different nature theme.
- Tadpole Troopers - Our pre-school program for 3, 4, and early 5 year old children is popular with families. Offered four times monthly during the school year, visiting children enjoy learning about nature through stories, games and crafts as well as a walking tour to observe wildlife in the forest.
- Tadpole School - Tadpole School is a weekly nature class for 4 and 5 year olds that include hands-on investigations, crafts and a guided nature walk for adult and child. Weekly themes include such topics as butterflies, owls, raccoons, snakes and more.
For ages 5 to 12
- Naturalist Explorer - These classes are designed for children ages 5-8. One Saturday each month during the school year children learn about natural history and basic ecology through hands-on, engaging activities.
- Nature Trekkers Camps - These weeklong sessions provide children ages 5-12 with a close look at natural science and ecology topics. Classes are designed and taught by staff naturalists and inspire enthusiasm for learning. Camps offered include: Winter Break (week between Christmas and New Year's Day), Spring Break (HISD calendar) and Summer Camps (June through mid-August)
In addition, the Nature Center offers school programs, scout programs, and birthday parties.
