Discovery Room

Make discoveries about Houston's urban wildlife and natural habitats in the Discovery Room. In this interactive environment, you can see what may not be that easy to see in the forest, learn what organisms hide beneath the surface of the pond, and make what may be the greatest discovery of all: that trees have their own important story to tell.

There are things to touch, puzzles to work, mysteries to solve, and places to explore. Peek through a microscope at a world that's almost invisible to the naked eye. Try your skills at the "Learning Tree Challenge" - and find all the animals and insects that make trees their home.

Enjoy the interactive exhibits and activities, microscopes, field guides, Discovery Boxes, puzzles and games. The Discovery Room naturalist will assist you in making discoveries or finding answers to your questions about nature.

Join us every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for animal feeding. Meet a naturalist and learn about the animals in the Discovery Room! Then go on a free, guided nature walk starting at 2 p.m.

The Discovery Room, located inside the Nature Center building, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., every day except Monday.

Groups wishing to visit the Discovery Room must make reservations. Click here for more information.

Please note: During the week, groups may be scheduled for programs in the Discovery Room. We advise calling ahead to check availability of the Discovery Room.
