EcoTrackers

EcoTracker classes inspire young naturalists - ages 9 to 12 - to explore their surroundings and deepen their knowledge of the natural world.

All classes include a short introduction inside followed by outdoor activities. The majority of class time is spent outside incorporating hands-on, engaging activities. Participants should come dressed for the weather, wear closed toe shoes, and bring a snack and water.

Programs are held one Saturday a month from September to May. Parents are welcome to drop their kids off or to stay and participate with their child.

  • Advanced reservation required. Register online, in person, or by mail or fax (713-682-2539). Payment must be included at time of registration.
  • Registration deadline is noon on Friday prior to each class; confirmation will be mailed or emailed to you.
  • Cost (per child/per class): $18 for members (Family Tree or above); $33 for non-members.
  • Register for fall class series and save $10 (all four classes, September - December).
  • Cancellation policy: You must notify us of your cancellation in writing via fax (713-682-2539) or email no later than 10 days prior to class to receive a 50% refund. No refunds are issued within 10 days of class.

This fall, come and learn what it's like to be a bird! Discover how birds live and survive in the wild, and what makes each bird different.

 

Frequent Flyers - September 18: 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Twice a year birds migrate to places where there is more food and a warmer climate. Explore how scientists track migrating birds and the challenges birds face along the way.

Amazing Adaptations - October 16: 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Feathers, beaks, and feet are all adaptations of birds. Discover how these adaptations help a bird to survive in its habitat.

Bird Tweets - November 20: 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Birds are famous for singing, but did you know they also somersault, strut, bow, dance, and bring treats to communicate? Explore the interesting ways birds let others know what’s on their minds.

Eggs to Fledglings - December 18: 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Birds’ eggs are protective life support systems complete with all the nutrients, minerals, and water a growing bird needs to develop. Discover the work parent birds put into hatching their eggs and fledging the baby birds.
