Gardening Organically
Employing principles of organic gardening we learn to use composting, proper watering techniques and proper plant selection to create a mini "ecosystem" that will maintain a healthy balance in our yards. Gardening using organic methods can create a thriving natural ecosystem that attracts birds, butterflies, reduces the need for fertilizers, pesticides, watering and maintenance. These gardens are attractive and provide an interesting, healthy environment where people can relax and enjoy time with family and friends.
In this new course, participants will learn the principles needed to begin to landscape or garden organically for the health of their yards and family.
Topics will include:
- Soil types and soil preparation
- Composting
- Garden concepts and design
- Plant selection for the upper Texas coast
