Nature Trekkers Summer Camp 2013

for Explorers ages 5 to 12 June 10-August 16

Join Houston Arboretum & Nature Center Naturalist teachers for fun-filled week long camps that explore the natural world through active hands-on indoor and outdoor adventures and hikes at this 155-acre nature sanctuary. Children are taught in classes by age: (5 & 6 yrs., 7 & 8 yrs., and 9-12 yrs.).

Class Dates: Monday – Friday, June 10 – August 16, 2013
Times: All day: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. / Morning only: 9 a.m. – noon
Fees:
All day (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) $265 per child members,$325 per child non-members per week
Morning only (9 a.m. – noon) $140 per child members,$180 per child non-members per week

City Critters

Learn about the creatures who manage to live close to humans while still staying wild. We’ll see how everyone can make their yard a miniature wildlife preserve to attract some of these intriguing critters. Students will become the family expert on ecology with an urban twist!

Living on the Edge

Have you ever seen a Red Wolf, Texas Horned Lizard, a Houston Toad, or a White-nosed Coati? These animals are all native to Texas, yet are seldom seen because they are either endangered of threatened species. Games, educational crafts and outside activities will help us learn about the rarest of Texas animals and the reasons for their rarity.

Come discover the hidden world beneath our feet. We’ll explore everything from plant roots to voracious shrews and set our sights on anything that burrows, sleeps, or lives underground.

Eye on the Sky

Look up in the sky and what do you see? It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a flying squirrel! Come learn about the natural and manmade wonders of the sky. What causes rainbows? How does a hot air balloon float? Where do dragonflies live? Explore these and other questions about bees, kites, helicopters, tall trees, and more.

Kids will have a cool time this summer learning to kayak, fish, and geocache. Become part of our outdoor adventure as we play fun outdoor games, get messy with mud, and learn the skills necessary to hike, camp, and survive in the outdoors.
