2008 National Trails Day a great success!
National Trails Day 2008 numbers:
- 41 volunteers
- 170.5 hours of work
- 16 cubic yards moved
- 17 new enrollees in Trail Trekkers program
Over 40 volunteeers from REI and Texas Master Naturalists-Gulf Coast Chapter joined Houston Arboretum & Nature Center staff and volunteers on the trails to celebrate National Trails Day 2008! The morning Trail Work included 3 projects:
1) REI employees and customers and members of Boy Scout Troop 104 working with Arboretum staff to recut and surface a trail on the southeast corner of the building. This work included volunteers moving 16 cubic yards of granite gravel.
2) Texas Master Naturalists from the Gulf Coast Chapter transplanted native plants along the Alice Brown and Coggie Pearson trails. They also worked to re-tread about 30 ft. of the Coggie Pearson trail.
3) Houston Arboretum volunteers worked on pruning back plants along the 720 ft. of the Outer Loop Trail.
The Arboretum thanks each of the volunteers who "joined us on the trail" to make National Trails Day 2008 a success!
