Naturalist Explorers For Ages 5 to 8

Naturalist Explorers classes introduce children ages 5 to 8 to environmental and natural history topics in a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Classes include a short introduction inside followed by hands-on, engaging activities outside. Parents are welcome to participate with their child or drop them off.

 

All classes include a short introduction inside followed by outdoor activities. Children should come dressed for the weather, wear closed toe shoes, and bring a snack and water. Parents are welcome to drop their kids off or to stay and participate with their child. Classes are offered one Saturday each month from September to May.

  • Advanced reservation required. Register online, in person, or by mail or fax (713-682-2539). Payment must be included at time of registration.
  • Registration deadline is noon on Friday prior to each class; confirmation will be mailed or emailed to you.
  • Cost (per child/per class): $18 for members (Family Tree or above); $33 for non-members.
  • Register for fall class series and save $10! (all four classes, September - December) .
  • Cancellation policy: You must notify us of your cancellation in writing via fax
    (713-682-2539) or email no later than 10 days prior to class to receive a 50% refund. No refunds are issued within 10 days of class.

Tremendous Travelers
Some species of birds move households twice a year, traveling thousands of miles in some cases. Discover how these birds accomplish such an incredible trip.

Feathers, Beaks, and Feet, Oh My!

Why can’t a hummingbird gobble up a mouse? Why can’t a sparrow catch a fish? Explore how birds are adapted to survive in their habitats.

Chirp, Chirp, Chatter
Birds communicate in many different and unusual ways. Explore some of the ways birds talk with others through songs, calls, and displays.

Feathered Families

From nests, to eggs, to fledglings, bird parents are very busy. Come and learn about life in a feathered family.
