Sharing Nature - One Day Workshop - Thursday, October 15, 2009
Based on the philosophy and activities from Joseph Cornell's popular and highly -acclaimed "Sharing Nature" book series, this workshop will include learning nature games and experiencing nature in new ways. Participants will come away inspired and eager to share the many activities they’ve learned.
Workshop Schedule:
Morning Session: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
How children learn: Five guidelines to insure successful nature experiences
- Learning with the heart and the whole being
- Flow Learning™ ( a technique for sensitively guiding people to more meaningful nature experiences)
- Making your message more appealing and relevant
Experiencing Nature Activities for:
- Making learning fun
- Building group spirit
- Making science an experience
- Demonstrating ecological concepts
- Learning animal characteristics and habits
- Focusing attention and observation
Lunch: (12-1 p.m.)
Afternoon Session: 1-4 p.m.
Journey to the Heart of Nature Activities
Awareness and earth stewardship activities that promote loving and caring for nature.
Tree Activities
Experiential games that teach about trees scientifically as well as through imagination and intuition.
Listening to Nature Activities
Techniques for deepening your personal enjoyment of nature and increasing your effectiveness as a teacher.
Course Instructor: Greg Traymar is the USA Coordinator for the Sharing Nature Foundation and holds a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies from Warren Wilson College, with a minor in Outdoor Leadership.
