Bugology |
Bug lovers, unite! Search for insect homes, meet insects up-close, make your own insects, and go on six-legged safaris at the Nature Center. Get to know the little creepy crawlies around you. During this exciting week we will make our own tools to collect and study insects. |
Eat or be Eaten |
Why does a cat stalk its prey? Why are some grasshoppers shaped like a leaf? Life on our planet is a never-ending struggle between predators and prey. Come and find out how creatures great and small use smarts, speed, strength, special senses, and weapons to survive. |
Water Planet |
In both liquid and frozen form, water covers 75% of the Earth's surface. It fills the sky with clouds. Water is practically everywhere on Earth, from inside the planet's rocky crust to inside the cells of the human body. Explore the wonderful world of water! Water cycles, a wetland safari, water creatures and water labs will make this week a splash! |
Sensing Nature |
Naturalists use a variety of tools to explore the natural world, but we rely most on the tools we are all born with - our senses! We will explore our toolbox of senses and then find out which animal tastes through their feet, has natural radar, can locate prey by sensing heat and has an eye that contains 30,000 lenses. |
Magnificent Mammals |
What do mice, whales and humans have in common? We are all mammals! Learn more about this diverse and fascinating group of creatures and get to know some of the special mammals that live right here in Texas. Discover the wonders of fur, test our acute mammal sense of smell and see just what the mammals have that allowed them to survive the great extinction that ended the age of dinosaurs. |
